Das Handlot besteht aus dem Lotkörper mit Stropp und der Lotleine. Der Lotkörper hat am unteren Ende eine Ausbohrung für die Lotspeise (zum Heraufholen einer Grundprobe). Die Leine ist zur Feststellung der jeweiligen Wassertiefe mit Tuch- und Lederstreifen markiert.
