Preface This is the fifth edition of CSA C361, Energy performance and drum volume of household electric clothes dryers. It supersedes the previous editions published in 2012, 1992, 1989, and 1982 under the title Test method for measuring energy consumption and drum volume of electrically operated household tumble-type clothes dryers. This Standard specifies the methods to be used for measuring the energy consumption and drum volume of household electric tumble-type clothes dryers and for evaluating their energy performance. CSA Group acknowledges that the development of this Standard was made possible, in part, by the financial support of BC Hydro, Efficiency Nova Scotia, Manitoba Hydro, Natural Resources Canada (NRCan), SaskPower, the Ontario Ministry of Energy (OME), the Ontario Power Authority (OPA), and the Canadian Electricity Association (CEA). This Standard has been developed in compliance with Standards Council of Canada requirements for National Standards of Canada. It has been published as a National Standard of Canada by CSA Group. Scope 1.1 This Standard covers electrically operated household clothes dryers and specifies two separate energy performance test methods. The first procedure relies on operator intervention to manually end the test; the second procedure relies on the dryer’s automated termination control. This Standard also specifies minimum energy efficiency levels. 1.2 This Standard applies to electrically operated household tumble-type clothes dryers, compact and standard, designed for a 60 Hz ac supply with a nominal system voltage of 120, 120/240, or 120/208 V. 1.3 This Standard does not cover gas clothes dryers. Note: For requirements for gas clothes dryers, see CSA P.5. 1.4 In this Standard, \"shall\" is used to express a requirement, that is, a provision that the user is obliged to satisfy in order to comply with the standard; \"should\" is used to express a recommendation or that which is advised but not required; and \"may\" is used to express an option or that which is permissible within the limits of the standard. Notes accompanying clauses do not include requirements or alternative requirements; the purpose of a note accompanying a clause is to separate from the text explanatory or informative material. Notes to tables and figures are considered part of the table or figure and may be written as requirements. Annexes are designated normative (mandatory) or informative (non-mandatory) to define their application. 1.5 The values given in SI units are the units of record for the purposes of this Standard. The values given in parentheses are for information and comparison only.
