Defines general and safety requirements for starting devices (starters and ignitors) for tubular fluorescent and other discharge lamps for use on a.c. supplies up to 1000 V at 50 Hz or 60 Hz, producing starting pulses not in excess of 100 kV for use in combination with amps and ballasts covered in IEC 81, IEC 188, IEC 192, IEC 662, IEC 920, IEC 922 and CSA Standard CAN/CSA-C22.2 No. 74-96.

Scope This Standard specifies general and safety requirements for starting devices (starters and ignitors) for tubular fluorescent and other discharge lamps for use on a.c. supplies up to 1 000 V at 50 Hz or 60 Hz which produce starting pulses not greater than 100 kV and which are used in combination with lamps and ballasts covered in IEC 81, IEC 188, IEC 192, IEC 662, IEC 920, IEC 922 and CSA Standard CAN/CSA-C22.2 No. 74-96. NOTE - A standard on metal halide lamps is under consideration. This Standard also covers starting devices for lamps which are not yet standardized. It does not apply to glow starters or starting devices which are incorporated in discharge lamps or which are manually operated. Preheat transformers for tubular fluorescent lamps are covered by IEC 920. Tests in this standard are type tests. Requirements for testing individual starting devices during production are not included. NOTE - Glow starters are included in IEC 155. This Standard applies to the safety of such equipment designed to be installed on branch circuits not exceeding 750 V and used in accordance with the rules of the Canadian Electrical Code, Part I. Note: Manufacturers designing products for use in Canada may fin d a helpful summary of the equipment-related requirements of the Canadian Electrical Code, Part I, in CSA Publication SPE-2000. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Domaine d\'application La présente norme spécifie les prescriptions générales et les prescriptions de sécurité relatives aux dispositifs d\'amorçage (starters et amorceurs) pour lampes tubulaires à fluorescence et autres lampes à décharge, alimentés en courant alternatif de 50 Hz ou 60 Hz jusqu\'à 1 000 V, produisant des impulsions d\'amorçage ne dépassant pas 100 kV et utilisés en association avec les lampes et ballasts faisant l\'objet des normes CEI 81, CEI 1 88, CEI 192, CEI 662, CEI 920, CEI 922 et CAN/CSA-C22.2 no 74-96. Les transformateurs de préchauffage pour lampes tubulaires à fluorescence sont traités dans la CEI 920. Les essais faisant l\'objet de la présente norme sont des essais de type. Les prescriptions pour l\'essai en production des dispositifs d\'amorçage individuels n\'en font pas partie. NOTE - Les starters à lueur sont traités dans la CEI 155. Cette norme vise la sécurité des appareils conçus pour être installés sur des dérivations d\'au plus 750 V et utilisés conformé ment au Code canadien de l\'électricité, Première partie. Note.
