La Norma si applica a cavi in fibra ottica per uso con apparati di telecomunicazioni e dispositivi impieganti tecniche simili, e inoltre a cavi aventi una combinazione di fibre ottiche e di conduttori elettrici. L'obiettivo della Norma è di definire le procedure di prova da usare per stabilire prescrizioni uniformi rispetto al contesto elettrico.
