Preface This is the fourth edition of ANSI Z21.42-2013, Gas-fired illuminating appliances. Scope 1.1 This Standard applies to newly produced illuminating appliances constructed entirely of new, unused parts and materials: a) for use with natural gas; b) for use with manufactured gas; c) for use with mixed gas; d) for use with liquefied petroleum gases; e) for use with butane gas; and f) for use with LP gas-air mixtures. The construction of illuminating appliances for use with the above-mentioned gases is covered under Clause 4, Construction. The performance of illuminating appliances for use with the above-mentioned gases is covered under Clause 5, Performance. 1.2 This Standard also covers gas-fired illuminating appliances for either outdoor or indoor installation, or both, for attachment to fixed gas piping systems. 1.3 Appliances found suitable for indoor use under this standard are satisfactory for use in mobile homes or travel trailers when properly installed. 1.4 This Standard is not intended to cover open-flame illuminating appliances having an input rating in excess of 5,000 Btu per hour (1 465 W) per burner. 1.5 All references to psi throughout this standard are to be considered gage pressures unless otherwise specified. 1.6 Clause 2, Reference publications, contains a list of standards specifically referenced in this standard and sources from which they may be obtained.
