CSA Preface This is the second edition of CSA ISO 17225-4, Solid biofuels — Fuel specifications and classes — Part 4: Graded wood chips, which is an adoption without modification of the identically titled ISO (International Organization for Standardization) Standard 17225-4 (second edition, 2021-02). It supersedes the previous edition published in 2015 as CSA ISO 17225-4 (adopted ISO 17225-4:2014). For brevity, this Standard will be referred to as \"CSA ISO 17225-4\" throughout. The main changes since the previous edition are as follows: • particle size distribution classification has been updated; • moisture and ash content classes have been updated; and • Annex A has been updated. This Standard is one of a series of Standards developed by ISO/TC 238 on Solid Biofuels that are being adopted by CSA Group under the series Solid biofuels — Fuel specifications and classes, which consists of the following: a) ISO 17225-1, Part 1: General requirements; b) ISO 17225-2, Part 2: Graded wood pellets; c) ISO 17225-3, Part 3: Graded wood briquettes; d) ISO 17225-4, Part 4: Graded wood chips; e) ISO 17225-5, Part 5: Graded firewood; f) ISO 17225-6, Part 6: Graded non-woody pellets; and g) ISO 17225-7, Part 7: Graded non-woody briquettes. This Standard is intended to be used in conjunction with CSA ISO 17225-1:24, Solid biofuels — Fuel specifications and classes — Part 1: General requirements (adopted ISO 17225-1:2021). This Standard was reviewed for Canadian adoption by the CSA Technical Committee on Solid Biofuels, under the jurisdiction of the CSA Strategic Steering Committee on Fuel Burning Equipment, and has been formally approved by the Technical Committee. This Standard has been developed in compliance with Standards Council of Canada requirements for National Standards of Canada. It has been published as a National Standard of Canada by CSA Group. Scope This document determines the fuel quality classes and specifications of graded wood chips. This document covers only wood chips produced from the following raw materials (see ISO 17225-1:2021, Table 1): •1.1 Forest, plantation and other virgin wood; •1.2 By-products and residues from wood processing industry; •1.3.1 Chemically untreated used wood. This document covers only wood chips, which are produced with sharp tools, and does not cover hog fuel, which is produced with blunt tools.
