    In der Norm sind die Benennungen der wichtigsten Glasarten und Glasgruppen mit kurzen Erläuterungen und Hinweisen zusammengefasst. Glasarten im Sinne der Norm sind Gläser und Glasgruppen, die sich durch ihre Zusammensetzung und ihre chemischen und physikalischen Eigenschaften unterscheiden. Aus Gründen der Übersichtlichkeit wurde von einer weitergehenden Aufgliederung abgesehen und deshalb viele der bekannten binären, ternären und Mehrkomponenten-Glassysteme nicht aufgenommen. Auf Ober- und Unterbegriffe wird verwiesen.
