    Diese Norm enthält eine Übersicht über die Gase, die als Brennstoff verwendet werden. Auf die Verwendung von Brenngasen als Rohstoff in der chemischen Industrie wird hingewiesen. Die Norm enthält auch Gase, die Anteile von Brenngasen sind, aber fast ausschliesslich als Rohstoff in der chemischen Industrie verwendet werden. Bemerkungen zur Erzeugung der Brenngase sind im Beiblatt 1 zu DIN 1340 enthalten.
