A Withdrawn Standard is one, which is removed from sale, and its unique number can no longer be used. The Standard can be withdrawn and not replaced, or it can be withdrawn and replaced by a Standard with a different number.

Diese Norm gilt für Veröffentlichungen aus Wissenschaft, Technik, Wirtschaft und Verwaltung. Sie gibt Empfehlungen für die Gestaltung von Forschungsberichten (reports), die im Regelfall nicht von einem Verlag veröffentlicht werden. Dabei wird nicht auf die jeweils geltenden Urheber- und Kopierrechte eingegangen, die vom Verfasser bzw. der herausgebenden Institution zu klären sind. Sie lässt sich auch auf andere Veröffentlichungen dieser Institutionen anwenden, wie z. B. Jahresberichte.
