This method is for use with sludge, paste-like or solid matter. If the sludge sample is sufficiently fluid, a direct measurement can be made (see sub-clause 6.1). If the sludge sample contains relatively little water or is a solid waste, the measurement must be carried out as described in sub-clause 6.2.
