B. in der Datentechnik, Industrieelektronik, Mess- und Nachrichtentechnik, medizinischen Elektronik und Verkehrselektronik. Zweck dieser Norm ist die Festlegung der Hauptmasse von freistehenden Schränken und von befestigten Gestellreihen. Weitere Einzelheiten sind in anderen Teilen der Normenreihe DIN 41494 festgelegt, zum Beispiel: Frontplatten nach DIN 41494 Teil 1 Leiterplatten nach DIN 41494 Teil 2 Baugruppen und Baugruppenträger nach DIN 41494 Teil 5. Bauelemente an Frontplatten nach DIN 41494 Teil 8.
