Applies to hand-guided and hand-held (not column-guided) drilling hammers, these being powered devices (driven by internal combustion engines, compressed air, electric motors or hydraulic fluid) which rotate a drill bit and periodically transmit impact energy to the tool shank. The magnitude of this impact energy depends on the internal design of the hammer and cannot be influenced by external forces, provided that a given minimum contact pressure ensures steady-state operating conditions. The vibration of such hammers is measured according to DIN 45675(PT1) with extra specifications for obtaining characteristic results by measuring the vibration of the handle under conditions modelling those in typical use.
