The method specified serves to determine the resistance of rolled or forged products made from austenitic stainless steels to local corrosion in highly oxidizing acids. Not only may intergranular corrosion take place, but other manifestations of local corrosion may also occur due to the inhomogeneous structure of local corrosion may also occur due to the inhomogeneous structure of the products. The results obtained in this test only constitute a basis for estimating the in-service behaviour of a material when this is subjected to attack by highly oxidizing acids such as concentrated nitric acid.
