A method is specified for determining the evaporation loss of petroleum fractions, particularly base oils used for motor oils; it is not applicable to mineral oils containing polymers or to other petroleum products which are not completely evaporated under the specified test conditions. The method is applicable to mineral oils with an initial boiling point of at least 160 deg C and a final boiling point not exceeding 635 deg C, the range between these points being greater than 55 degrees.
