    Die Verschleissprüfung nach dem Sandriesel-Verfahren dient zur Prüfung des Verhaltens von Glas und Kunststoff, vorzugsweise für Sichtscheiben gegen Prall-Schrägstrahl-Verschleiss. Die Prüfung kann sowohl an ebenen als auch an gewölbten Flächen durchgeführt werden. Es wird der Oberflächenverschleiss festgestellt. Als Messgrösse dient die Zunahme des Streulichtes. Anmerkung: Im praktischen Gebrauch von Sichtscheiben treten auch Verschleissbeanspruchungen anderer Art als Prall-Schrägstrahl-Verschleiss auf, die mit diesem Verfahren nicht erfasstwerden (siehe auch Erläuterungen).
