This standard is included in DIN Handbook 490/2. The testing is intended for determining the thickness of smooth, non-embossed plastics films and is carried out in such a manner as to permit irregularities of thickness to be detected across the width and - in special cases - along the length of a test piece taken from the sheeting or strip. In addition, the testing serves as an auxiliary to other testing e.g. the tensile test, or the determination of the dielectric properties, and it is then carried out on the specimens prescribed for these testings. The measuring instrument to be used for the thickness determination depends on the permissible measurement error limit, which shall be agreed in each case.
