Die Prüfung der Oxidationsstabilität nach dieser Norm dient dazu, durch Lagerung in einem Wärmeschrank unter zeitraffenden, definierten und reproduzierbaren Bedingungen Aussagen über das Stabilitätsverhalten von Formmassen und Formstoffen aus Polyethylen hoher Dichte (PE-HD) an Luft zu ethalten. Das Prüfverfahren nach dieser Norm ist nicht anwendbar, wenn durch Zusätze, wie z.B. Russ oder andere Pigmente, die beiden zur Bestimmung der CO-Zahl dienenden Banden im Infrarot(IR)-Spektrum überdeckt werden.
