The tests serve to determine the response of flammable materials to a small flame from a DIN 50051 burner in a DIN 50050 flame test chamber under controlled test conditions (see DIN 53438 Part 2 and Part 3). The methods of test are suitable for production control purposes, where consistency of flammability is to be tested, and for comparing the burning characteristics of different products. Beyond this, the test results can provide no more than general indications as to the burning characteristics of a product under conditions differing from those in the tests.
