This method is used for measuring indentation hardness in the 'normal' sub-range on specimens which, because of their small dimensions, cannot be measured according to DIN 53519 Sheet 1. It should be borne in mind that any existing inhomogeneity, surface hardening, unevenness or roughness (e.g. through buffing) will exert a considerably greater influence on the outcome of the micro-testing that on the results of testings performed according to Sheet 1. Therefore, even when standard specimens are used, complete agreement between the values measured by the two methods cannot always be expected.
