This describes the composition, preparation, properties and application of a standard reference elastomer (SRE) made of silicone rubber (MVQ). It is representative of MVQ grades such as are widely used for seals in contact with petroleum products. Its constituents and method of preparation ensure a sufficiently close correspondence of its property profile and that of the material group represented, while its simple mix structure provides for a reliable reproducibility.
