For many analyses and tests such as, for example, the determination of extractable constituents in accordance with DIN 53738, a large specific surface of the specimen is required. For this reason, plastic products frequently have to be reduced in size. The methods described are suitable for the reduction of moulding materials, semi-finished products and finished parts made of plastic. Reduction can consist of initial and final reduction of the product. The selection of a suitable method depends on the type of product to be reduced, the purpose of the investigation and the required fineness of the material to be reduced.
