Apart from fineness, staple length is the most important property of a fibre that can be determined by measurable quantities in order to characterize its quality. The terminology relating to the measurement of fibre length, together with some other aspects, is common to all types of fibre, but the individual application of the various methods of measurement is often restricted to particular types of fibre.
