Das Scheuern spielt eine wichtige Rolle bei der Vielfalt der Beanspruchungen, die auf Textilien im Gebrauch einwirken und zu ihrem allmählichen Unbrauchbarwerden (Verschleiss) führen. Die unter definierten Bedingungen durchgeführte Scheuerprüfung kann einen Anhalt für das voraussichtliche Verhalten des textilen Flächengebildes bei Scheuerbeanspruchung im Gebrauch geben und ermöglicht in Verbindung mit der Prüfung anderer Eigenschaften die Beurteilung seiner Gebrauchstüchtigkeit für bestimmte Verwendungsgebiete.
