Applies to the diagnostic detection of human infectious diseases and diseases of the immune system by the polymerase chain reactor (PCR) procedure. Can also suitably apply to the PCR diagnostics of other human disorders. It establishes the requirements for sample preparation, in vitro amplification of nucleic acid sequences (DNA sequences) and detection of the specificity of the amplified nucleic acid sequence (PCR product). With the aid of PCR, defined deoxyribonucleic acid sequences (DNA sequences) can be detected. Ribonucleic acid sequences (RNA sequences) can also be detected following reverse transcription of the RNA to complementary DNA (cDNA).
