Diese Norm gilt für alle textilen Spinnfasern, Filamente, Kabel, Faserbänder, Kammzüge, Vorgarne, Garne, Zwirne, Schnüre, Litzen, Seile und verwandte Erzeugnisse. Durch dieses international vereinbarte System, das in viele Zweige der Textilindustrie bereits eingeführt worden ist, soll eine einheitliche Bezeichnung aller Arten von linienförmigen textilen Gebilden ermöglicht werden.
