Specifies methods of representing and characterizing the separation of disperse materials, irrespective of the nature of the characteristic used to classify the particles (hereinafter briefly referred to as "particle characteristic"). Various types of particle characteristic may be used, for example: in classifying processes a fineness characteristic may be used, such as the geometrical dimensions of the particles, the settling velocity (see DIN 66141); in sorting processes a property specific to the material in question, such as density, may be used.
