A Withdrawn Standard is one, which is removed from sale, and its unique number can no longer be used. The Standard can be withdrawn and not replaced, or it can be withdrawn and replaced by a Standard with a different number.

The outer wall is made of steel, is impermeable or gastight, and forms a self-contained tank ('outer tank', for short), the height of which is a function of the inner tank's permissible filling height, i.e. corresponding to 95% of its capacity.
