Diese Norm gilt in Verbindung mit DIN 6779-1 und DIN 6779-2 für die funktions- und ortsbezogene Kennzeichnung von technischen Produkten für See- und Binnenschiffe, Schiffe der Bundeswehr und anderer Behörden sowie Offshore-Einheiten (nachfolgend nur Schiffe) Diese Norm legt die Kennzeichnungsblöcke, die zur eindeutigen Identifizierung und Lokalisierung der technischen Produkte selbst, in den Dokumenten und der Kennzeichnung der Dokumente, die innerhalb der Technischen Produktdokumentation benötigt werden, fest.
