    Diese Norm legt Benennungen und Definitionen an bestimmte Strassenfahrzeuge nach deren technischen Merkmalen fest. Auf gesetzliche Vorschriften wird nur dort verwiesen, wo die Abgrenzung des Übergangs von einem zum anderen Fahrzeug nur durch diese gesetzliche Vorschrift gekennzeichnet wird. Die Begriffe berücksichtigen nicht, ob die Fahrzeuge und bestimmate Kombinationen amtlich zulassungsfähig sind oder nicht. Die Begriffe nach dieser Norm sind anzuwenden auf Fahrzeuge, die zum Betrieb auf der Strasse vorgesehen und nicht an Gleise gebunden sind (Kraftwagen, Anhängefahrzeuge, Fehrzeugkombinationen, Mopeds, Motorräder).
