Spring-type straight pins (also known as roll pins) to this standard are pins made of spring steel, rolled from strip and having a slot along their length and one or two chamfers to permit insertion. They are mainly used for connecting two or more parts of an assembly and are suitable for withstanding shear loads. They can also be used for bolted joints where it is desired to avoid relative movement of the bolted parts without applying a high pre-stress.
