Die Technische Spezifikation legt, basierend auf ISO/TS 12902, ein Verfahren zur Bestimmung des Gehaltes an Gesamtkohlenstoff, Wasserstoff und Stickstoff von festen Biobrennstoffen fest. Das Prinzip des Verfahrens besteht aus der Verbrennung einer bekannten Masse der Probe in Sauerstoff oder einem Sauerstoff-Trägergas-Gemisch derart, dass sie in Asche und gasförmige Verbrennungsprodukte umgewandelt wird. Die Massenanteile an Kohlenstoffdioxid, Wasserdampf und Stickstoff im Gasstrom werden quantitativ durch geeignete instrumentelle Gas-Analyseverfahren bestimmt.
