Applies to the use of a 16-bit track pair to record 24-bit data words per channel. Arisen in the market, is a requirement for media storing digital audio data with words that are wider than 16 bits, and the introduction of digital mixing consoles that incorporate signal processing with higher resolution than 16 bits. Digital multitrack tapes are an ideal medium with their enormous data storage capacity for such an implementation. Applies also, to any other medium with minimum of two tracks.
