Dieser Teil der IEC 60875 gilt für wellenlängenunabhängige Lichtwellenleiter-Verzweiger. Diese besitzen folgende allgemeine Merkmale: sie sind passiv, d. h. sie enthalten keine optoelektronischen oder sonstigen Übertragungselemente; sie besitzen drei oder mehr Anschlüsse für den Eingang und/oder Ausgang der optischen Leistung und verteilen die optische Leistung in vorbestimmter Weise unter diesen Anschlüssen; die Anschlüsse sind Lichtwellenleiter oder Lichtwellenleiter-Steckverbinder. Diese Norm legt einheitliche Anforderungen fest für: optische, mechanische und umwelttechnische Eigenschaften.
