Dieser Teil der IEC 60876 gilt für Lichtwellenleiter-Umschalter, die alle die folgenden allgemeinen Merkmale besitzen: - sie sind passiv, d. h. sie enthalten keine optoelektronischen oder sonstigen Übertragungselemente; - sie haben ein oder mehrere Anschlüsse für die Übertragung der optischen Leistung und zwei oder mehr Zustände, in denen die Leistung zwischen den Anschlüssen übertragen oder gesperrt werden kann; - die Anschlüsse sind Lichtwellenleiter oder Lichtwellenleiter-Steckverbinder.
