Dieser Teil von IEC 61280 liefert eine Parameterdefinition und ein Prüfverfahren zur Ermittlung des optischen Signal-Rausch-Verhältnisses (OSNR) mit Messeinrichtungen, die das optische Spektrum an einer Mehrkanalschnittstelle messen. Da die Rauschmessung mit einem optischen Spektralanalysator durchgeführt wird, enthält das gemessene Rauschen nicht das auf die Quelle bezogene Intensitätsrauschen (en: relative intensity noise - RIN) oder das Empfängerrauschen.
