Die Norm legt Verfahren zur Kalibrierung und für Funktionsprüfungen von Szintillationsdetektorsystemen fest, die für die Messung der Energie von Gammastrahlung und der Oberflächenemissionsraten von Radionukliden vorgesehen sind, sowie zur Bestimmung der Radionuklide. Sie ist auf Detektorsysteme mit anorganischen Szintillatoren anwendbar und erweitert den Anwendungsbereich der ersten Ausgabe der DIN IEC 61453, welche auf Systeme mit thalliumaktivierten Natriumiodid-Detektoren eingeschränkt war.
