    Diese Norm gilt für aufteilbare Aussenkabel mit Lichtwellenleitern, die in Fernmeldeanlagen und Informationsverarbeitungsanlagen verwendet werden. Sie dürfen in Innenräume eingeführt und dort verlegt werden. Die Grundelemente sind nach Entfernen des Aussenmantels wie Innenkabel mit einem Lichtwellenleiter nach DIN VDE 0888-4 (VDE 0888 Teil 4) verwendbar. Diese Norm gilt nicht für faseroptische Elemente der Licht- und Bildübertragung.Zweck dieser Norm ist die Festlegung einheitlicher Anforderungen an den Aufbau, die Masse, die optischen, die übertragungstechnischen, die mechanischen und die Umwelteigenschaften von aufteilbaren Aussenkabeln sowie die Festlegung der entsprechenden Prüfungen.
