Notice to Reviewers
Public comment is invited in relation to the proposal to amend AS/NZS 4360:2004 Risk Management by adoption of the recently approved new international standard on risk management (ISO 31000:2009) with an amended “Introduction” which explains to Australian and New Zealand stakeholders the relationship of the two documents.
The amended local document will be published as AS/NZS ISO 31000:2009.
The proposal to amend AS/NZS 4360:2009 has the unanimous support of Committee OB-007 - the joint Australian /New Zealand project committee responsible for this standard (and numerous related standards and handbooks).
It should be noted that there was extensive public consultation in 2008 in both Australia and New Zealand on the content of ISO 31000. (In New Zealand, the 2008 consultation round also dealt explicitly with the issue of subsequent amendment of AS/NZS 4360 but that was not the case in Australia, and hence the need for this further consultation.)
With the exception of the Introduction (which is “Informative” rather than “normative”) no changes can be made now to ISO 31000 which is due for release by the International Standards Organisation in early October.
This consultation is therefore principally in respect of two questions:
(a) The proposal to amend AS/NZS 4360:2004 in this way.
(b) The proposed wording of the “Introduction”.
Please use the attached Comments form to submit comments – either for or against this proposal. Any proposals for alterations to the Introduction must explain, in the ‘Comments’ column, the concern with the existing wording and set out an alternative wording of the relevant passage.
Due to the limited scope of this consultation, comments must be received by Standards Australia not later than 5th October 2009. Comments may be made on-line or by downloading and completing the comments form and returning this to Andrew.mckay@standards.org.au
