Proposes requirements for self-contained portable electrically-heated sterilizers that have an integral water storage and generate saturated steam at selected temperatures up to and including 134 degrees Celsius. These sterilizers are intended for use in health care facilities, generally for the sterilization of instruments and utensils (wrapped and unwrapped). They are not suitable for the sterilization of wrapped instruments and porous loads, unless a drying stage is provided. Also, they are not suitable for the sterilization of fluids, unless the sterilizer also complies with the relevant requirements of AS 2192 for the sterilization of fluids. These sterilizers have an integral water reservoir and do not require plumbing, should not be installed in any location where flammable anaesthetics or volatile liquids may be used and, where not provided with a drying stage, must not be used for the sterilization of wrapped instruments and porous loads.
