Proposes design and construction requirements for buildings in designated bushfire-prone areas in order to improve their performance when subjected to burning debris, radiant heat and flame contact generated from a bushfire. These requirements are designed to be applied in conjunction with relevant planning and sub-division measures. Although the proposed requirements are designed to improve the performance of such buildings there can be no guarantee, because of the variable nature of bushfire, that any one building will withstand bushfire attack on every occasion. Proposes the recognition of methodologies to carry out assessments for bushfire-prone areas as well as individual allotments - for example, this has been achieved by adopting vegetation classifications, which are illustrated. Proposes performance and deemed to comply methods for assessment, and includes three levels of construction to address bushfire attack, namely from radiant heat and direct flame contact as well as attack from burning debris covered in the current edition.
