Proposes recommendations and controls for information system design, implementation and operation to safeguard information resources of organizations from external and internal security, threats, either accidental or intended, and includes a comprehensive list of terms relating to information security. The proposed Standard is based on BS 7799.1:1995 and Amdt 1:1998. It is primarily intended as a reference document for personnel responsible for implementing and maintaining information security. It includes appendices containing information on legislation relevant to Australia and New Zealand as well as guidelines and principles from the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD). The complete text can be viewed at the Sydney and Melbourne Information Centres of Standards Australia or at Standards New Zealand. Arrangements can be made to view copies at other Standards Australia Branches if required. Proposed as a Joint Australian/New Zealand Standard.
