Abstract - (Show below) - (Hide below)

Covers supplies of unused aromatic hydrocarbon impregnating fluid for pumping/flushing fluid-filled pressure-assisted cables operating up to 400 kV. Cable fluids undergo further processing before introduction into cable systems (see E R C84/1: 'Operation of Oil- Filled Pressure Assisted Cable Systems up to 400kV Operating Voltage') and further testing is then necessary. Although this Specification includes both routine and type approval tests, the latter are not comprehensive. For instance, long-term ageing and compatibility tests are not specified. These tests are essential but require considerable care and attention to detail in order to avoid spurious results. This means that the Specification is only suitable for purchases of cable impregnated from approved suppliers, for example, those suppliers already approved by competent cable companies. This Specification covers 'readily biodegradable' straight chain alkylbenzene which is now the preferred material.
