AUTOMATIC ULTRASONIC TESTING OF TUBES - LONGITUDINALLY SUBMERGED ARC WELDED STEEL TUBES, OUTSIDE DIAMETERS 160 MM AND ABOVE
23-07-2013
12-01-2013
Specifies the procedures to be used for the ultrasonic detection of longitudinal and transverse imperfections in the weld zone of longitudinally submerged arc welded steel tubes, together with the reference standards and acceptance criteria. Covers tubes of outside diameters 160 mm and above but does not, however, cover testing for laminar defects because, if required, this would normally be carried out on the plate prior to forming the tube in accordance with EATS 986. If testing for laminar defects is required, this will be stated in the Product Specification. When submerged arc welded steel tubes are subsequently cold drawn, and final ultrasonic inspection of the whole tube is specified the requirements of EATS 98-5, Part 2 including Appendix A, shall be applied after cold drawing.
