The Guide explores the relationship between risk management and corporate governance and provides a plan for the implementation of an effective risk assurance framework. The Guide takes the view that risk mangement develops the control environment and the control environment provides reasonable assurance to Boards and senior managers that the organisational objectives will be achieved within an acceptable degree of residual risk. Effective risk management is therefore the cornerstone of sound governance and the Guide provides an overview of the risk management process in line with AS/NZS 4360, Risk management. The Guide will be useful for Boards and senior managers in understanding the relationship between corporate governance and risk management, and in implementing an effective risk assurance framework. Although the guide is primarily designed with the private sector in mind its concepts and frameworks have corresponding application to the public sector, and its methods may be applied to organisations of any size.
