Gives a recommended method for measuring insulation resistance of armature and field windings in rotating machines rated 1hp, 750 W or more. It is applicable to synchronous machines, induction machines, direct-current machines, and sychronous condensers. Does not apply to fractional-horsepower machines. Also describes typical insulation resistance characteristics of rotating machine windings and how these characteristics indicate winding condition. It recommends acceptable values of insulation resistance for alternating-current and direct-current rotating machine windings.
