ISA-88.00.01-2010, Batch Control – Part 1: Models and Terminology, provides foundational models, terminology and guidance for batch process control in manufacturing industries. It defines hierarchical models for processes, equipment entities and procedural controls, emphasizing modularity, recipe management and a clear separation between product-specific recipes and equipment control. This standard covers types of manufacturing, process and equipment models, batch control structures (basic, procedural, coordination), recipe types and their contents, modes and states of equipment and procedures, batch scheduling, production information management and key batch control activities such as recipe management and unit supervision. ISA-88.00.01 also addresses compliance, conformance and completeness criteria for implementations. Informative annexes include a model philosophy, updates from previous versions, FAQs, an expanded procedural state model and safety references. It aims to improve communication, reduce automation costs and support flexible, reusable batch control solutions across various levels of automation.
