A Withdrawn Standard is one, which is removed from sale, and its unique number can no longer be used. The Standard can be withdrawn and not replaced, or it can be withdrawn and replaced by a Standard with a different number.

The principle of the method is randomly rolling a metal ball with six rubber studs inside a rotating drum which is lined with the specimens. The specimens have an inclined longitudinal cut down the centre. After fatiguing, the mechanical damage of the cut edges is assessed.
