This Japanese Industrial Standard specifies the construction of the cast iron steam boiler and hot water boiler, hereinafter referred to as the \"boiler\", and the appurtenances thereof to be used for heating service or for hot water supply. This standard, however, does not apply to the boiler which falls under any of the particulars given below: (1) Boiler having heating surface area 1 m*2 and under. (2) Steam boiler having heating surface area 3.5 m*2 and under, and falling under any of the following: (a) Boiler equipped with an atmospheric vent steam pipe not less than 25 mm in inside diameter. (b) Boiler equipped with a U-shaped vertical pipe installed at its steam space, not less than 25 mm in inside diameter and of static water head of 5 m (50 kPa) and under. (3) Hot water boiler of static water head of 10 m (100 kPa) and under, having heating surface area 8 m*2 and under.
