A Withdrawn Standard is one, which is removed from sale, and its unique number can no longer be used. The Standard can be withdrawn and not replaced, or it can be withdrawn and replaced by a Standard with a different number.

It establishes symbols for use on controls, indicators and tell-tales of a road vehicle (excepting two-wheeled vehicles) to ensure identification and facilitate use. It also indicates the colours of possible optical tell-tales which inform the driver of either correct operation or malfunctioning of the related devices.
