This Standard specifies angle beam ultrasonic examination mainly intended for the detection of longitudinal imperfections of the seamless steel tubes and weld seam of the electric resistance welded steel tubes with an outside diameter greater than or equal to 9.0 mm, with a thickness greater than or equal to 1.0 mm and with a thickness-to-outside diameter percentage smaller than or equal to 20 %. This method does not apply to welded stainless steel tubes. In the case of t/D exceeding 20 %, where an ultrasonic examination is designated by the purchaser, the examination may be performed, by agreement between the purchaser and supplier, in accordance with the method specified in annex 1. Further, for general matters other than those specified in this Standard, JIS Z 2344 shall apply.
